This happened to me a few days back in a class at IIMA: Prof. caught me and a female friend sitting together on the same seat and exclaimed, “Yeh kya! Khullam Khulla (in the open)!”, while the entire class of 180 students burst out laughing.
Recently, two sections had a combined class. Since a class is designed for a section of 90 students, there was a lack of chairs. Extra chairs had been placed at all places in the class.
I was sitting next to a female friend X. X’s best friend Y, who was from the other section, wanted to sit with X. Only the chairs at the front of the class were unoccupied, and I did not want to get up and go to the front. So Y and I decided to sit on the same chair. We didn’t think the prof would notice as there were already twice the number of students in the class, and some students were even sitting on the floor.
After around 40 minutes, i.e. halfway through the class, the prof. suddenly stared at us for some time and then asked, “Are you two sitting on the same seat?”
When we didn’t reply, he said, “Yeh kya! Khullam khulla!” (What is this? In the open!)
The whole class was laughing. 180 students laughing like crazy. Since Y didn’t get up, I had to get up. I moved towards the front row, at the corner seat.
But the prof. was not going to let go of me so easily. He asked me to sit right at the centre of the class in a special seat, saying he would not trust me sitting behind his back.
And that was still not the end of it. After a few minutes, he teased me again asking if I want to go back to the seat!
Definitely the most embarrassing moment of my life till date! And I am sure my friends will not let me forget this incident ever.
Edit: Since so many people have asked for a photo of the seat, here it is.
