George Jolicoeur, a 38-year-old man from Sanford, Florida (USA), was arrested in 2007 for a series of restaurant frauds.
He would order copious meals, such as five milkshakes or a platter of dried beef, consume most of them, then complain about their quality to refuse to pay and demand a refund.
Weighing approximately 272 kg, he was bedridden due to his morbid obesity and unable to attend his hearing in person. Authorities determined that his incarceration would be too costly, given the estimated thousands of dollars in medical transportation and prison care. Instead of a prison sentence, he was fined over $1,000.
The prosecutor stated: “He already has his cell. It’s his own bed.
