I think there are several things at work:
- Age 1.0. Jennifer Lawrence is in her mid-thirties now. Like many women her age, she decided she wanted to have children while she still could. This naturally limits the work she can do.
- Age 2.0. She isn’t in her 20s anymore. The brutal reality for women in Hollywood is that their star fades as they age. Because of looks. This is sad, but it’s the truth. She still looks great IMO, but it is a factor we shouldn’t ignore.
- Time. She’s had a good run! She was an A-lister for a long time. But most Hollywood careers ebb and flow. Her’s is ebbing right now. It might have a resurgence…or it might not. Only time will tell.
- Talent. Maybe she’s…just not that talented. Some actors are incredibly gifted, and their careers don’t go anywhere. And then there are movie stars who just seem mediocre as actors/singers/dancers/whatever. Show biz is a fickle business. Can you tell me that you really look forward to the next Jennifer Lawrence movie? In most movies, I feel like she just plays herself.
- Disinterest? Maybe she’s won’t try to do blockbusters anymore. I don’t know. But lots of A-list actors get rich and don’t want to do blockbusters anymore. They do weird Indie movies that they think are fun. Or stage plays. Or start companies. Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, and Cameron Diaz come to mind. Maybe she’ll do what they’ve done.
- EDIT: Lots of you commented that she was in Harvey Weinstein movies. Then he went away, and her star faded. Yikes! He was an awful, manipulative, abusive man. I don’t want to go there, but it does make you wonder.
