Miss Monroe was fairly average in her hygiene until later in her life. She became hooked on prescriptive drugs like so many other movie stars. Usually the stars yo-yo’ed between diet pills (speed), sleeping pills(barbiturates) and tranquilizers. Since one must be thin to look good, these habits are pervasive in Hollywood, where image is everything.
Being bored and aimless between movies also did not help. Add to that an unstable steak that plagues artists and the perfect storm appears- motivation, opportunity, and wealth= enabling physicians and mounds of drugs.
Frank Sinatra was her great friend. Like Frank, she had run into John Kennedy’s infamous treachery and was was sad and damaged.
As Ms Monroe deteriorated, was often inarticulate and almost unable to walk, Mr Sinatra used to call her constantly, stay with her when he could. He even thought about marrying her but his friends stopped him, saying he would end up in history as the man Monroe was married to when she killed herself.
Sinatra would scold Monroe in her last days when she became careless about personal hygiene as he was notoriously fastidious. He was one of the last persons she spoke to before overdosing.
