I’m 59 and look like this:
I’m not a health expert, but here’s how I’m doing it, in order of priority:
- I eat healthy (I think). I eat a lot of fish and vegetables. I avoid sugar. I avoid high yield bread, low nutritional content bread, which is pretty much all bread in the USA.
- I walk a lot. I choose urban environments to live in because I find it more natural to walk to get my groceries etc. My daily step count is 10K+. Throughout the day you have choices to either be sedentary or active. Every calorie counts. Don’t surround yourself with convenience.. Whenever possible choose to walk instead of drive or ride. It all adds up.
- I work out moderately every other day. I do weights, but also I run. I can still run because I took Danny Dryer’s course on form called Chi Running. I learned how to minimize joint strain. It really works. I’m still running, but instead of long runs I work sprints in, and look for hills or stairs to get them in, because intervals are the key to stoking up your metabolism so you burn fat long after the run is over. With weights, I get the workout done quickly and intensely for the same reason. Girls, don’t forget working out your upper body also. Muscles up there rob calories from your legs and bum.
- I intermitten fast. I don’t eat breakfast. Missing this one meal subtracts about a thousand calories from my day. I give my gut at least a 14 hour break from dinner to lunch. This spikes your testosterone a little, which keeps your metabolism more in gear. I don’t miss breakfast at all. I do like breakfast type food though, but I won’t have eggs etc until about 11 AM.
- Moderation:Â I do all of the above in moderation. My goals are sustainable.
That’s how I do it. It works for me. Youth is a gift of health. As you get older you can look and feel young but you have to make an effort. In my opinion it’s worth it.
Edit: If I had known so many would read this I wouldn’t have posted that picture. I don’t think I look that awesomely fit, but my point was that I strive to be sustainably fit. My favorite comment has been the guy who said I look like Dolf Lungren without steroids. I laughed, and I accept that.
